Chapter 109

Megan stared in silence at his parents’ house. What a beautiful place it was. How was this meeting going to end?  Jon was sure it would be all good but somehow she had this feeling that his mom, might not take it too well. She was a mother, she knew the intense protectiveness you feel towards your child and she was sure age didn’t change that.
“Baby…”
“Yeah?”
“Breathe for God’s sake!” she released a pent up breath.
“Lets get this over with.”
She was out of the car before he could even walk around the car.
The door opened and out came an elderly man, a handsome man at that. Megan could see where Jon got his looks, Jaden too.
“Hello son. You didn’t tell me you were bringing a beautiful young lady with you?”
“You know me, full of surprises.” They hugged for a moment.
“Well introduce me son.”
“Megan this is my dad..dad this is Megan”
“Hello, Megan. I’m John.”
Megan held her hand out but it was used to pull her closer and she received a warm kiss on the cheek.
“No hello for your mom, now?”
“Hey mama.”
He kissed her and hugged her, she held onto her son and he let her.
“Mama, this is Megan. Megan this is my mama.”
“Pleasure to meet you..Mrs. Bongiovi.”
“Oh please honey call me Carol. Lets go in, the coffee is waiting.”
Jon and his father talked about the past tour and eventually it turned to sport. Megan offered to help with the coffee but Carol insisted she stayed right where she was.
Everyone settled down with a cup of coffee and a tasty apple pie.
Jon settled back comfortably, balancing his plate on his knee.
“Mom, dad I came here tonight to tell you something important.”
The parents eyed each other. Could it be true, is there son going to settle down?
“And its not what you’re thinking….”
“How do you know what we were thinking?”
“Mama, I know you, you wanted to see me married since I cant remember when!”
“So enlighten us then, son.” John was intrigued.
Jon cleared his throat. Damn it was harder than he thought. He slid Megan’s cold clammy hand onto his knee, afraid he might crush it, yet felt the need to have her close.
“Mom…dad….I know this is going to be a huge shock, to you..but Megan and I have a son together. Your grandson..”
Moments went by and absolutely no sound. Carol’s eyes moved from Jon’s face to Megan’s , waiting to hear that they were playing a cruel joke on her.
“But..why..how…”
“It was a long time ago mom. We were young and stupid..very stupid but he is a wonderful boy and I don’t regret it in the least!”
Her face went from pale to red flushed cheeks. Her eyes narrowed and hatred spewed from them.
“and you can you be sure its yours? You’ve always been so gullible Jon. Did you do a paternity test? “
“Carol..” John warned his wife.
She jumped up.
“Don’t you Carol me! You were thinking the same thing. She is trying to get to your fame and money Jon. How can you be so damn blind?!”

Megan felt ice cold. She didn’t expect them to be happy about it but this she never expected.
“How old it this …child?”
Megan felt a rush of anger swept through her.
“He’s name is Jaden. Jaden Francis Lyons and his eight years old, I would appreciate it if you call him by his name.”
The snort from the woman was a downright mocking of Megan’s reply.
“How precious. You gave him Jon’s second name and everything is just peachy? Sorry but I don’t fall for this.”

“Carol that’s enough! Give Jon the opportunity to explain for God’s sake!”

Jon was pale and the dangerous tick in his jaw spelled trouble.
“Thanks dad. You know mom I expected more from you. What do you take me for? A fucking idiot? I KNOW that is my son. For God’s sake he looks just like me when I was young!  I hoped for your understanding but I guess it was a mistake. Now you don’t have to be part of my son’s life, but just know if you cant except him then I’ll be out of your life for good. So take your time to think this through and if you’re interested to meet him, you are welcome to have lunch with us on Sunday. “
Jon stood up, pulling Megan up as he stood.
“We wont keep you any longer.”
He turned towards Megan.
“I’m sorry you had to witness this. My mother didn’t raise me to be so rude to people like she was to you just now.”
His mom’s sharp intake of breath sliced through the air, it was meant to embarrass her and it hit home.
He hugged his surprised dad, ignoring his mom completely.
“The ball is now in your court. Use it, don’t use it.” He turned icy pools towards his mother.
They were out the door before Megan could utter a word.
