Chapter 143

Jon surprisingly had a relaxed dinner that night. Finding that despite disliking the guy for having the hots for Megan he could have a meaningful conversation with the guy and that Jason was actually very nice.
Megan relaxed as the evening moved along. Jon’s animosity seemed to have cooled a bit and he was actually having an interesting conversation with Jason.  She watched both men as their hands moved as they talked, the expression on their faces showing how completely absorbed they were in the conversation.
Looking at his watch, Jason pushed his empty cup to the side.
“I had a wonderful evening. The food was delicious, as always Meg.  Jon glad we had time to get to know each other better.”
Jon took the hand that was held out towards him.
“Likewise Jason.” The smile on his face was genuine.
“Why don’t I walk you out?”
“Goodnight Jon. Tell the little guy I said bye. I haven’t seen him in a while and knowing him to be quite loud, I think he fell asleep in front of the telly.”
The knowledge of the boy was amazing!
Megan laughed softly.
“I think you’re right. I will tell him.”
Watching them as they walked out, he turned towards the table as soon as the front door closed. Picking up the cups he walked towards the kitchen, keeping his hands busy while she saw him off. He didn’t want to see her kiss him.
“You better go in Sweetheart, Its chilly out.”
Megan stared at the handsome, gentle face so close to her, his love for her glittered so clearly in those catgreen eyes of his. The soft lines around his mouth pulled gently into a smile.
“Thank you for today.”
Brushing a stubborn curl from her face he spoke.
“No need to thank me. You know I’ll always be there for you, no matter what.”
“You are a strange creature. You know that? You have so much going for you. Why do you waste your time on me when you can meet a wonderful lady?”
His eyes screened the darkness as if looking for an answer.
“I don’t want anyone else. It wont be fair to commit to someone you don’t love.”
“Oh Jason! Don’t say tha….”
His lips sealed off her words. Pulling her into his huge chest, he marveled at her scent, her curves, the way her curls blew softly over his hand. To him it felt as if time stood still where in fact it was over in mere seconds.
“I shouldn’t have done that. “ He didn’t wait for her reaction.
Climbing into the car, it roared to life. His hand lifted in greeting and apology.
Rubbing her arms she felt a shiver run up and down her spine. It was chilly, or was it the shock of Jason’s tender, yearning kiss?
Slamming the closest available item, Jon cursed himself for not listening to the little voice in his head.
Why didn’t he just stayed in his damn bedroom?  Why did he have to go out on his patio, just when Jason pulled her closer? Damn it all to hell!
He heard her soft footsteps passing his door, waiting, hoping it might stop. It didn’t. Sighing he turned towards the shower.
~~
Jon’s occupied “Come in” had her wavered uncertainly at the door.
His head bowed over a piece of paper, his face scrunched in deep concentration. The pen was flying over the sheet in blinding speed.
“Am I disturbing you?”
Flashing those baby blues her way, he took a quick look at the paper.
“Just a song forming in my head, I just wanted it down before I lose it.”
“Maybe I should wait then.”
“Do you mind giving me just a few more minutes? I’ll be done real quick.”
“Later then.” She turned to walked out.
“No wait! Sit here with me, please? There is no need to go.”
Actually he craved her presence, just the knowledge that she was here with him…
She had almost forgotten the lunch she brought. Putting it down next to him, she explained hurriedly.
“Its way past lunchtime. I thought  you might be hungry. Let me make you something to drink with that.”
“Thanks baby.” He rubbed his growling tummy as she unwrapped his food.
“Oh lord. I am hungry! It looks wonderful!”
Megan made Jon’s  favorite  pork sandwiches with mustard. Knowing his incredible appetite she threw in a couple more than usual.
“You write. I make coffee.”
“Yes mam’am.”
He grabbed a sandwich and turned his eyes towards the sheet, picking up the pen.
Sliding the coffee towards him she moved towards the counter.
She caught a quick glimpse of the sheet and Jon’s scribbling….Janie, don’t take your love to town.
Sitting down on the counter, she pulled her feet underneath herself, huddling her back against the corner.
She could stare at him for hours. His hair fell close his face, covering his cheeks. His jaw jutted proudly,  his lips moving while he wrote. He was in another world, she wasn’t even sure if he knew about the coffee but then he reached for it without looking up, taking a few sips, grabbing another sandwich again.
