Chapter 155

Carol tapped irritatingly on the table.
“Where was she?”
One thing Carol hated was tardiness.
“Hello Carol.”
“You’re late.”
“I know and I’m sorry. I needed to get something.”
She ordered a coffee and cheesecake and turned her attention back to Carol.
Dorothea was smiling so brightly, she couldn’t help but smile back.
“Why are you all chirpy?”
Taking something from her handbag she slid it towards Carol, watching her expression closely.
Carol took the sonar photo in her hands.
“Say hello to your grandchild.”
Emotions flashed across her features, staring at the black and white paper in her hand.
“Oh Dorothea, that’s wonderful!!!”
Carol stood up and hugged the girl.
“You’ve made me a very happy old woman today!”
“Old? You’ll never grow old Carol.”
They shared a hearty laugh only two woman with a sharing a secret could muster. This secret they had to take to the grave and unbeknownst to Carol, Dorothea had an even bigger secret to keep.

Richie kissed Megan softly on the forehead as she stood up to walk into the consulting room. This was unfortunately something she had to do alone.
“I’ll be right here.”
“I know.” Her voice sounded so tiny at that moment.
After a thorough examination the doctor prepared her for a sonograph.
Watching the dark screen she saw only dark and light spots as he moved over her stomach, searching for the little embryo bobbing inside her womb.
The doctor’s hand stilled.
“There it is. See there it’s the heartbeat, healthy and strong.” Doing his measurements he looked towards her.
“According to my calculations you are about 13 weeks pregnant. This is your second pregnancy, how could you miss it?” Is questions were gentle.
“As for one. I used the pill. I have a history of spastic colon so I thought it might be the start of it.”
Nodding at her explanation he could see how she missed the bloated stomach and general feeling of poor health. As for the failing contraceptive…
“Havent you had any ailment the prior to 13 weeks?”
A bucket of cold water was thrown in her face.
“Now that you mentioned it. I had a horrible stomach virus…..”
He smiled at her shocked face, finishing the sentence for her.
“and you used antibiotics. Did you know that  diarrhea interferes with the absorption of the pill?”
He felt sorry for the beautiful woman with the shaky smile.
“Well, now I know.”
“Do you want this baby miss. Lyons?”
“Oh yes! I do, with all my heart.”
“I’m glad to hear that. A baby needs to know that its loved and wanted.”
Wiping the cold gel from her stomach, he helped her up, offering her the first picture of her baby.
She stared at the little body on it. So tiny yet so perfect!
A decision invaded her mind and it refused to be ignored. This baby is going to know its father from the start. Jon is going to go through this with her, he deserves it.
Unless he doesn’t want to a cruel voice in her taunted but she suppressed it and smiled brightly at the doctor.
It was a smiling, glowing woman Richie met as she walked out of the room.
“When is Jon coming back? I have something tiny to show him.”
Richie heart almost burst at the relief and joy he felt for his brother and this wonderful girl. They deserved happiness and by God he is going to make sure they get it!
