Chapter 178

Megan was watching Jaden as he busied himself with his beloved ponies. The kid was a total different person when he was around his ponies. Love and happiness shone from his little body and the smile on his face made his mother’s heart ache from all the love she felt.
Megan heard a car pull up and turned around.  She waved at Jaden and walked towards the car.
“Well this is a pleasant surprise Jason!”
His usual smile was absent and that’s when Megan saw the state he was in. His clothes were crumpled, his shirt hanging out of his pants. There wasn’t a single hair in its place due to endless raking. Something was terribly wrong.
Megan gasped as she saw the  pallor  of his face.
“Jason?”  His hand raked hopelessly threw his hair again.
He seemed close to collapsing, stepping forward she put her arms around her. She felt him sag against her and panic rushed through her.
“Oh God Jase..please tell me what’s wrong?!”
“It’s Bethany…..she died.”
Shock shot through her.
“What happened? Oh my God! I’m so sorry.”
Bethany has been with Jason since he started his own practice. She was like he mother he never had and seeing that she didn’t have any family left either, they adopted each other.
“Car..car accident.” He gulped back the tears.
Cradling his blond head close to her breasts, she stroked his shimmering mane. He was beaten, there was nothing left of the cheery, confident man she knew. Feeling him leaning onto her more heavily she walked towards the mansion. His weight was overwhelming and she was so scared he might collapse.
She sat him down on the couch.
“You sit here. I’ll be back in a minute ok?”
He blankly nodded at her.
Megan went into the kitchen and asked the cook for a sandwich and two coffees.
She found him with his head in his hands, tears dripped passed his hands and she heard the undeniable sob of a heartbroken man.
It broke her heart seeing him in this state, sitting down next to him she stroked his back. She didn’t know what else to do.
“She suffered so badly..I will never forget her face till the day I die.”
Megan didn’t respond, she waited for him to continue, her hand comforting him silently.
“She didn’t see the truck. It was standing abandoned next to the road. When she saw it she swerved into the oncoming traffic. Oh God! They called me and I rushed to the hospital. There was blood everywhere Meg. I almost didn’t recognized her, her face was ..her face was….”
“It’s ok Jase. You don’t have to tell me now.”
She stood up as a servant walked in with the tray.
“Thanks.”
“Here eat something. Here is some strong coffee too.”
“I don’t …”
“Jase you need to keep your strength up honey.”
He searched her gentle face as he took the sandwich from her. It only took one bite to realize how hungry he actually was. Finishing the plate he looked apologetically at Megan.
“You want some more huh? Oh I know, cook can make a mean zammy”

She disappeared to the kitchen and came back with a already made sandwich. The cook always made sure there was more than enough.
He was lying against the back rest of the couch, his eyes closed.
The coffee cup was empty in his hands.
Taking the cup from him she realized he was gone. Exhaustion had taken over.
Megan went upstairs and hunted down a blanket. Covering him with it she drew the curtains and closed the door, requesting that she servants don’t disturb him.
