Chapter 149

Jon sat down again, keeping a close watch on Megan as she tried her best to act as if nothing happened.
“Its so wonderful, isn’t it Mary? Jon and Dorothea are back together and Megan and Jason! Its time they settle down especially Jon, he isn’t getting any younger you know.” Carol’s false friendliness was so obvious.
Mary smiled graciously at Carol. Being a woman herself she wasn’t obvlious to the sting in the woman’s words, telling Megan in no certain terms to back off and that Dorothea was her first choice.
“I agree with you. I’m just glad to see my child happy and if Jason  could provide her with it so be it.”
Dorothea and Carol raised their wine glasses to each other. Megan stared at her fruitjuice, feeling the cake working its way up her throat. Well there it was out in the open, Jon and Dorothea.
“Don’t I have any say in it mother? Its me who has to get married after all.”  Jon’s smile was almost a cold sneer.
“If I leave it in your hands, you’ll be a bachelor forever!”
John took his wife’s hand in warning. It seemed to work.
“I have a little announcement of my own.’ Jon took his glass and everyone looked on in anticipation.
“I’m flying out tonight to meet up with a director. Some of you might know the name. Mark Pellington. I’m going to spent a couple of weeks with him, sorting out the some details. If all goes well we will start the filming next year. I’m writing the soundtrack as well! That song I wrote the other day, its for this movie.”  He spoke to Megan, his excitement was palpable.
Everyone clapped hands, congratulating him in the huge accomplishment.
Megan was so happy for him but knew she would have to wait to tell him about her pregnancy when he comes back.
Megan was so greatful to see the last car leaving for the day. She was tired and grumpy and needed a warm soothing bath.
Jon, Richie and Jaden were in the sittingroom oohing and aahing over all the gifts.
“Mom! Mom come look!”
Groaning to herself she climbed down the stairs again. It seems her bath has to wait.
“Look mom! Geesh! Its awesome!”
The two men were settled on the floor next to him their faces lit up like little boys.
“I wish we had cool toys like this when we were young!” Richie pouted, inspecting the intricate toy in his hand.
Jaden opened another gift and he shrieked.
“My own guitar! You gonna teach me dad?”
“Yeah sure buddy. Just know it takes hard work and dedication but when you’ve got it, there will be no stopping you! I threw mine down the stairs once.”
“For real?!”
“Yep.”
“Yeah then we can buy you and electric guitar! Oh man! Imagine the jamming sessions we’ll have!”
Richie picked up the ridiculously small guitar, his fingers brushing the strings a few times before it settled into a Bon Jovi song.
Not too long after that all three of them were singing on the top of their lungs to Living on a prayer.
Megan sneaked her camera closer and snapped a few shots. This was so cute!
“You the groupie now?” Jon teased.
“Uhuh.”
They sang for hours or rather until Jaden’s voice went hoarse.
“This was the best birthday ever! Thanks mom, thanks dad.” He hugged them each individually, not forgetting Richie.
“You’re welcome sport!”
“My pleasure Peanut. Don’t you think its time for a bath, I see your eyes are struggling to stay open.”
He didn’t argue. He was dead on his feet anyway.
Jon called a servant to clear up the sitting room as everyone stood up.
“You gonna join us for some wine on the patio?”
“No thanks. I need a warm bath and a bed.”
“I’ll send some sandwiches and hot chocolate up later then. You go and enjoy that bubble bath.”
It was just in the way that he said it and the look in his eyes that started the slow simmer in her core.
He could picture her all wet and slippery covered in bubbles. Feeling the familiar twitch in his pants he walked towards the patio. Maybe he should take the sandwiches and hot chocolate up himself ….
