Chapter 148

Not long after did Dorothea and Jason arrive.
There were servants and children everywhere. Megan thanked her lucky stars for all the willing hands keeping an eye on the river, helping with the kids and serving the adults!
The family was all mingling and having their own conversations when Jason lured her to a secluded spot.
They didn’t see Jon’s eyes following him except Dorothea and Carol. Neither of them liked it very much.
“So how do you feel about your son’s ninth birthday?”
“I cant believe he grew up so quickly! It feels like yesterday when I held him in my arms for the first time all pink and angry at the world!” the motherly smile soften her features.
“I’ve noticed something today and I was wondering.”
She looked up at him questioningly.
“And that would be?”
“Do you have a tummy ache or something?”
Alarmed at the strange question she frowned.
“Why would you ask that?”
“Well you’ve been rubbing and resting your hand on your stomach to whole time…”
“I do? I didn’t even notice!” she shrugged, turning away.
“Ooooh no! That one is not going to work on me.” His hand closed over her arm.
“Jason what I have to say is not meant to be said here.”
Dorothea was sitting next to Jon, rubbing his thigh sensually while trying to keep his attention away from Megan. He obliged by giving her absentminded smiles but that was as far as it went. His hand closed over hers, stilling her hand.
Jon almost jumped up when Jason stopped Megan from moving away from him. What was he playing at? Were they having a fight?
Megan’s eyes glistened with unshed tears, biting her lip, he flicked a forefinger over it.
“You’re going to split your lips sweetheart. Tell me. It cant be that bad.”
“Jason you don’t know what you’re saying. Its worse that bad!”
She gulped, grabbed all her strength together and let the words slip.
“I’m pregnant.”
The shock in his green eyes and the gasp coming from him turned her head in alarm. Hoping no one saw his reaction, her eyes locked with skyblue ones.
Whatever Megan had told Jason was enough to almost snap the man’s back in two. Licking her lips nervously she turned her attention back to Jason.
“Jon is looking our way. I know it must be a shock to you but please dont  give him any reason  to come here, please?!”
“You mean, he doesn’t know?”
“No! Listen Jason! I have to tell him he is going to be a father after he just hooked up with Dorothea! Could you forgive me for taking my time in telling him?”
Hoping he could wipe the utter fear from her face he hugged her to him.
“Ok, ok. I’m sorry, just calm down its not good for you and the baby.”
“Would you mind  joining us at the table? Jaden is going to blow out the candles.”
Jon walked from them and Megan was ready to faint.
Did he hear what Jason said? Not by the looks of it, Megan sighed.
Standing behind Jaden she watched while everyone sang cheerfully.
“Hip hip!”
“Hooray!”
A servant scooped the cake up, dividing it and dishing it out to awaiting little faces.
Megan sat down next to Jason, concern shone in his eyes as he saw her pale features.
“Are you ok?”
“I’m fine! Now eat your cake.”
Richie was to Megan’s right and hearing Jason’s question her looked at her.
“You want me to get you something?”
“Rich! I’m fine really! What would I do without you two mother hens?”
She pinched a dimpled cheek between her fingers, turning to smile at Jason.
Forcing herself to eat a few bites of cake she felt cold eyes on her.
Looking up she was faced with Carol.
“You haven’t introduced me to your..eerr. .. friend here.”
“Oh I’m sorry.”
She stood up so quickly that she lost her balance. The world spun dangerously, a small cry slipped from her lips and with flailing arms she searched for a steady hand.
Richie and Jason grabbed at her small form, steadying her.
Jon jumped up but seeing she was in four huge hands, he stood still. There was something not quite right about this scene. Richie and Jason were clucking around her like brood hens, Richie asking her if she was ok.
Helping her to sit down she smiled weakly.
“My stupid ankle. I’m ok really, I am.” Standing up slowly she looked at Carol.
“This is Jason Dutton, a very dear friend of mine. Jason this is Carol Bongiovi and John.”
“How do you do Jason.”
He smiled at the old man.
“We’ve met earlier today. Please to meet you Carol.”
