Chapter 166

“Apparently a lot.” Feeling embarrassed for emptying her stomach while Richie stood there, she stood up. He stepped closer immediately, steadying her as he saw her sway slightly.
Despair glowed in her eyes and he wasn’t sure if it was the nausea or Jon’s mother putting it there until she spoke.
“I don’t know if I can do this.”
~~
“I’m sorry Jon. I will not apologise. There is nothing to apologise for.”
“I’m sorry you feel that way mother. If you’ll excuse me, I have to go see if Megan is ok.”
He turned on his heel and stalked off without so much as a goodbye.
“Well, I know when I’m not wanted.” She jumped up.
“Can you blame him? You disrespect his future wife in his house. He would be a spineless idiot not too stand up for her. Let’s go.” Johns hand closed somewhat harshly around his wife’s elbow. One look in his blazing eyes and she knew she had gone too far this time.
~~
He heard her soft admission and he felt all life drain from him. What did she mean?
“What sweetie? The pregnancy? I’m sure all woman feels like that, it will pass.”
“No Richie, not that. The marriage, Jon..I cant do this. I cant come between him and his mother. It’s just not right! No woman should stand between a man and his family.”
“Meg…no Sweetheart…”
“No.” Jon was pale as death  standing in the doorway.
She almost snapped her back as she heard his inconsolable no. She wasn’t ready for him to hear that just yet.
“You promised me, baby. You can’t back down now. Fuck my mother! I don’t want her. You, Jaden and that baby are my life now. That’s all I need.”
Richie backed from the bathroom. They needed their privacy.
“Rich. Thanx for back there. I was so pissed, I didn’t even think of telling them.”
“I’ll always have your back my brother . You and that little lady’s over there.” He winked and was gone.
“What did he do?”
“He came up for you. He had never done that before, not with my mother. He told her that she had no right to treat you like shit and that he would appreciate if she didn’t upset you, seeing as you are pregnant with my baby. “
“Oh God!” She felt woozy.
Jon gave one step closer, cupping her tearstricken face in his hands. Desperation turned his voice to a guttural plea.
 “See baby? There are so many people vouching for you! Please give us a chance? We can get through this and..”
“and let your mother hate me for the rest of my life?”
“Megan listen to me! I don’t give a damn what my mother thinks! I want you, I need you and that’s enough. My mother will come to her senses soon. Please baby?”
She stared at the bluest of blue eyes, uncertainty and love for her dilated his pupils, his iris just a speck of electric blue.
~~~
Dorothea was feeling so sorry for herself but decided to hit the town and do what women do best, shopping.
Hours later she  struggled down the street with a scary amount of shopping bags in her hands. Not able to see the slight crack in the pavement, she tripped and lost her hold on a few bags in attempt to soften her fall.
“Dammit!”
“Need some help darlin’?”
She looked up and sighed. Oh great! Why him?
“Hey Robert. Help would be much appreciated thanks.”
His eyes brushed over her and she smiled. He was still in love with her, that was clear in his eyes.
Helping her up and taking all her bags to the car, he closed the boot of the car. She was suddenly pressed very intimately against him, his eyes were aflame with want.
“Please have coffee with me? Just coffee.”
“Ok then.”
He had a hard time keeping his hands off her but being in public he had no choice.
“How are you Sweetheart?”
“I’m good and you?”
“I miss you.”
“Robert, please. We had this discussion before. I wont play second fiddle.”
“I saw a lawyer but its so difficult with the kids.”
“I can just imagine. I think this was a bad idea.” She tried to stand up but he captured her hand.
“Can you tell me why you bought maternity wear?”
‘What?” Oh shit!
“Didn’t think I saw it, huh? Is it mine?” Hope flickered in his eyes.
“What if it is? You cant do anything about it. You are married remember?” sarcasm dripped from her.
“I knew it! When were you going to tell me!?”
“Never. I can raise this baby on my own. Besides what make you so sure its yours?”
His fingers brushed her cheek.
“I know you. Inside and out. You cant lie to me.”
“Well,  Robert as I said before I’m not going to play the little mistress anymore. I’ll be ok. I wont expect anything from you. Go back to your wife and your kids. Goodbye.”
She stood up and walked out.
She didn’t see the dark haired man watching her as she rushed out the door. Looking back at the blond man sitting at the table with his face in his hands, he made a mental note of the guy.  That man was very comfortable with Dorothea, too comfortable…like lovers? The glint of the wedding band caught his eye. Oh so this is how the wind blows..hhhmmmmmm.
