Jon heard a bustle in the kitchen, thought that it might be Megan he sauntered over. He cant believe how badly he missed her when she wasn’t around!
It wasn’t Megan. Jaden and Mary entered from the backdoor, chatting cheerfully about Blaze.
“Oh, hi Jon!”
“Hey Mary. Hello son.” He bowed forwards, planting an automatic kiss on his son’s dark head, giving it a little ruffle as he slid his hand from it.
“Thought I’d let you know. Megan is going to be late, so she asked that you start dinner without her.”
Irritation brushed across his face.
“Oh?!”
Mary didn’t go into detail and he’ll be damned if he dragged it out of her.
“Well, sweetie you better go bath, before dinner.”
“I will gran. See ya tomorrow!”
Energy only a child at that age could have, he scampered up the stairs.
“So everything under control, here? Don’t need me to stay to dish up?”
“We’re all set thanx hun. I asked Sophia to work a bit later.”
She bid him a goodnight and was out the door.
Dialling her number, he waited for her voice on the other side. Megan heard it ringing, saw who it was and turned a deaf ear.
“Damn it all to hell!!”
He slammed the phone down on the counter.
What if something happens to her?
Why would something happen to her ? She is probably with the vet. The voice wont let up.
The doorbell rang cheerfully and he grumbled as he walked towards it.
Dorothea stood smiling at the door. Her heart somersaulted when she saw his handsome face. A shadow crossed his face for a moment, but it was so fleetingly that Dorothea thought she might have imagined it.
“Come in Dot. Always on time I see.”
She leaned forward and kissed him softly on the lips. They felt cold and unwelcome.
Nodding he said.
“You know the way.”
“Hello Dorothea.”
“Hey, Richie. How are you?”
“Oh same as always, you know me.”
The conversation was just getting on track, when Jaden hustled in.
Jon heard her loud gasp, Richie’s eyes moving between the blue eyes of Jaden’s and Dorothea’s shocked ones.
“Son, I’d like you to meet, Dorothea. The friend I told you about.”
The last sentence shoved the shock from her eyes and a warm glow back into them. So they were talking about me? Hhhhmmmmm
“Please to meet you Dorothea. I’m Jaden.”
Dinner was brought in but Dorothea couldn’t help but catching a glimpse at the boy ever so often. Even the way he smiled or the little frown as he concentrated was the exact replica of his dad’s.
Dinner was dragging out to long for Jon and he wished this night would draw to a close.
“Well, if you two lovebirds will excuse us. There is a movie we want to see.” Jon frowned at Richie’s remark.
Seeing as Dorothea didn’t mention leaving soon he invited her to have a cappuccino on the patio.
“Why are you so on edge tonight? You keep watching your watch. Do you need to be somewhere?”
Feeling guilty for being so inhospitable he smiled.
“I’m watching my watch? Sorry Dot, didn’t even realize. Guess its force of habit, you know. I still need to wind down from the tour, it usually takes a while.” Shitty explanation but it just had to do.
A few hours later she said her goodbyes but not without a promise to go out with her soon.
It was 11 ‘o clock when she drove away.
Jon felt like a caged animal. Despair and worry coursed through him. Staring out at the silence and darkness he turned around, slamming the door.

Megan was almost home. She decided on a good pizza and a late movie. She felt so refreshed from the day at the spa that nothing could break her feeling of wellbeing.
It was just past 12 when she eventually closed the garage door behind her, hoping that Dorothea would be gone and everyone asleep.
She reached out to turn the knob when the door whooshed open. Jon stood quite disheveled before her, sleep still thick in his eyes.
All thoughts flooded from her mind. She just stood there staring at the beauty if a man.
“Where the fuck were you? Why didn’t you answer the damn phone? I went out of my mind, worrying about you!”
“Didn’t my mother give you the message?”
“Yes, she did. She didn’t mention that you wont come home for the night!”
“Oh please Jon. Spare me the drama. I’m a big girl. I can look after myself and YOU are not my dad.”
She extinguished his anger with her tartly remark. She was actually right too.
Moving backwards he let her past, flames burned in her eyes and she looked so delectable at that moment.
