Chapter 126

Carol shut the phone for the umpteenth time. Should she or shouldn’t she?
It might be the only chance before her crazy son pop the question and then it might be too late.
Flicking the phone open, she dialed the number. Her heart racing as she waited for the voice answer.
“Hello?”
“Dorothea, darling! Carol speaking, how are you?”
“Carol!  I’m well and you. We haven’t spoken in a while. Something happened with Jon?”  Concern for Jon slipped through.
Spot on! She still had feelings for him!
“Nothing healthwise but  on a personal level, definitely.”
Dorothea frowned at the woman’s vague answer.
“Is it possible for you to meet me at the coffeeshop?”
“Of cause. I don’t have anything pressing right now. When would you like to meet?”
“How about an hour? Or is it too soon?”
Her curiosity was seriously tickled.
“That’s perfect.”
Sitting at the table waiting for Carol, she let her thoughts run free. She liked Carol and they seemed to moving on the same level.  She had hoped that she would become Mrs. Bongiovi but for some reason Jon never committed. She was ready to settle down, have kids, but he always steered clear of any commitment talks.
Wonder what Carol had on her mind. Maybe Jon spoke to her and asked her to soften her up again. Hell she would take him back in a heartbeat. They were an on and off couple for so long but the last time he called it quits she had this horrible feeling that it was finally over.
A flicker of hope sprouted as she saw Carol entering the shop. Maybe…just maybe…
Standing up she kissed the older woman, hugging her briefly.
Ordering each a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, Carol settled into the chair.
“As I said on the phone this morning, a lot has been going on in Jon’s life. Do you know a Megan Lyons?”
A  bell rang in her mind. Lyons…Lyons?
“I know Mary and Patrick’ surname  is Lyons. Not sure I know that name..Megan you said?”
A grimace washed over Carol’s face.
“She is actually their daughter. Do you know her?”
Where was she going with this?
“Ooooh, she was but a snooty teenager, always hanging around at Jon’s place, helping her mother out. Jon was quite protective of her. Ok now, what does she have to do with all of this?”
Carol didn’t like the Jon’s  “protectiveness”. Look where it got him!
Dorothea took a sip of her coffee, a confused look in her eyes as she looked at Carol.
“I know this is going to be a shock, but they have a child together.”
Coffee sputtered all over the place, sending Dorothea into a choking fit.
“Are you ok, dear?”
Holding her hand up to catch her breath Dorothea’s eyes widen every passing second as it sank in.
“Are you sure? Good Lord! When did that happen?”
“Well I guess when he was so “protective” of her.”
Realization dawned on her. The philandering bastard! It means, he was sleeping with her and that little..little slut!
Carol saw her eyes blazing, reaching out, she tapped her hand gently.
“I know…and I’m sorry for doing this to you.”
“How old is the kid?”
“He is eight.”
“A boy huh. How sure are you the child is his?” Dorothea was sure she was having a nightmare.
“There is no doubt. He is the splitting image of Jon.  We visited them yesterday. “
“Yesterday? You mean..he has the boy with him? Where is this..Megan?”
“Staying with him?!” She was shouting now, some customers glanced their way.
Hurt and tears welled up in her eyes, her hands shaking as she tried to scoop a piece of cake.
“That’s where you come in.”
“I come in?” Dorothea was missing something.
“I want you to run that golddigger out of my son’s life for good.”
“And how in the hell am I going to do that?”
“Sleep with him and get pregnant.”
