Chapter 104

The car was ready and waiting for them outside. Jaden slid opposite them on the seat, stifling a yawn.
“Did you have a great time sport?”
“Oh yeah! It was so cool!”
There wasn’t much said after that. They just watched as he slumbered off, his body slumped against the door.
~~
“Peanut we are here. You have to wake up.”
Megan tried her best to wake the boy up but he was dead to the world.
“Let me take him up. He had  a big day.”
“But..but he has to wake up.” He saw the panic in her eyes.
“He’ll wake up soon enough.”
They reached the hotel room. Jon lowered the boy onto the couch. His eyes fluttered open as Jon called his name.
“We have something to tell you. Are you going to wake up for us?”
“I’ll order you some nice hot chocolate before you go to sleep.”
Jaden sat up, rubbing his eyes.
Megan was sure she was going to break her own hands off, she was wringing them so hard.
This was it.
Jon sat next to her, taking his time to hold her hand in his.
“Ja…ahem.” She cleared her throat, she had never been so nervous in her whole life.
“Peanut I have something I need to tell you. This is very important and I hope you will be very happy when you hear it.”
“As you know, I was very young when I had you and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank the Lord for giving you to me. You are very special to me and I love you. Everything I have done is because I love you.”
The sleepiness was vanishing from his eyes. She had his full attention.
She looked at Jon quickly then turned her head towards her son.
“When you were young, you always wanted to know where your dad is. The time wasn’t right to tell you but I think you are grown up enough to know now. Sweetie Jon is your father….”
The boys grew dangerously pale, emotions flashed across his young face, confusion crinkled his forehead.
Megan felt Jon squeeze, he was breaking her fingers but somehow she knew he wasn’t even aware of what he was doing.
Jon watched as his son tried to comprehend what his mother had just told him.
A tear trailed down his cheek and she stood up.
He jumped up as fast his broken shoulder would allow and ran for the room.
“Leave me alone!”
“Jaden…oh honey..Jon?!”
She was crying now. Her worst nightmare had just come true!
She fisted his chest, burying her face in his shirt.
“He hates me now! Oh God Jon!”
Jon’s shaky laugh wasn’t convincing.
“He doesn’t hate you. You’re his mom. He is just in shock, you know it is a bit much for him to take right now. Look at me.”
He stroked her curly dark tresses.
“You order him some hot chocolate and coffee for us. Let me go talk to him.”
“You sure?”
He nodded.
He found the boys standing in front of the window staring at the citylights.
“May I come in.”
Jaden shrugged.
Jon sat down on the bed, knowing that he wouldn’t welcome any physical contact.
“Jaden, I know this is a shock to you, but I’m so glad you are my son. I don’t expect you to call me dad right now. Jon will do for now. Don’t feel pressured, I know is going to take time to get used to the idea. We need to get to know each other and it doesn’t have to be overnight, ok? “
Jaden had turned towards him while he spoke.
“How long have you known? Why do you want to know me now? Wasn’t mom and I good enough years ago?”
The hurt in his eyes were unbearable.
“Buddy, I found out I had a son when you hurt your shoulder. I wish I knew about you when you were born, but its too late to dwell on that now, we have to focus on the future.”
“Why would my mom not tell you? Did you hurt her? What did you do?!” Jaden’s voice demanded an answer.
Megan’s soft voice trembled at the door.
“He didn’t do anything sweetheart. Its my fault he didn’t know. I’m sorry, I thought it might be best..”
His mother’s betrayal was too much for him.
“I hate you!”
“Jaden…please..” Mother and son cried. His was angry tears, hers a broken heart.
She placed the hot chocolate next to his bed, Jon’s warm hand circled her waist, pulling her towards the door.
“I know you hurt right now Jaden, but your mom only did what she thought was best. Maybe it was wrong of her, but to tell her you hate her hurts her very much. We will leave you alone but think about it. Your mom loves you and she wanted to protect you…Goodnight buddy.”
He’s back was turned towards them.
