A thought struck her and she rushed to catch up with Jon.
“Jon..Jon wait!”
The soft feel of her hand on his arm, brought him to a halt.
The tears in her eyes and the wet trails down her cheeks ripped his guts right out of him but he didn’t dare give into the pity he felt for her.
“Can we wait to tell Jaden about you until he is better, please? His pony got hurt and I’m not sure if the doctor will be able to save it and to tell him you are his father all at once could be too much for him.”
He studied her for a while. He saw the protective love in her eyes for her child, their child.
“We’ll wait then . Get me the number for the vet where the pony is, I want to speak to him.”
“I’m going there tomorrow anyway. You could come with..”
“That’s settled then.”
“Thank you for giving me time to tell Jaden. I’m so sorry Jon.”
She walked past him, she had to, before she broke down and flung herself in his arms.
Richie stood excited next to the bed. Jaden was waking up, he was still groggy but he recognized Richie and the smile on his little face tugged at Richie’s heart.
“He’s waking up, Meg. “
She rushed to his side, stroking his hand.
The electric blue eyes fluttered open and locked with his mother’s.
Jon’s gasp whipped in the air. God the boy had his eyes! Richie didn’t lie when he said the kid looked like him!
“Mo..mom..thirsty..”
She held the glass of cool refreshing water against his lips, pacing him as he sipped greedily.
He leaned back against the pillow, winched as he moved his injured shoulder.
“Honey, can you remember what happened to you?”
“Blaze tripped and we fell.”
“That’s right sweetheart. You broke your shoulder and you have a concussion. So just take it easy ok, peanut?”
He nodded solemnly.
“Is Blaze ok?”
Oh shit, she better lie with a straight face now.
“I’m going to see Blaze tomorrow. The vet said he is resting comfortably.”
“Will you give him a lump of sugar for me?”
“Of cause honey that pony is going to be so fat one of these days he wont be able to move.” She winked at him.
Jon had settled back against the wall, following the conversation between mother and child.
Jaden’s attention turned to Richie.
“Hey sport. You gave us a fright! But I see you are a tough guy.”
A huge hand enveloped a much smaller one.
“I’m glad you came Richie.”
“Glad to be here. I’ll make sure your mom gives Blaze that lump tomorrow.”
He leaned forward to whisper in the boy’s ear.
“ Maybe sneak an extra one as well.”
Jaden giggled.
Megan loved to see the smile on his beautiful face.
She felt a pair of eyes boring into her back.
“Richie isn’t the only one that flew down to see if you are ok.”
She stepped sideways, revealing the rock star leaning against the wall trying his damndest to control his overwhelming emotions.
“No way! Jon Bon Jovi!? Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!”
