Richie decided to spend the day with Megan and Jaden, to Jaden’s greatest joy. There was just something about this boy that kickstarted his paternal instincts. The absence of a father was visible and the boy enjoyed Richie’s attention.
“How bout some pizza and ice cream to celebrate your victory, tiger?”
“Aaaaawesome! Can we mom, huh, huh, pleeeeaaasseee?”
Richie looked over at the woman that grew more silent as the day went on. She had a worried look on her face, but tried her best to hide it as she smiled and nodded.
Jaden jumped into the car and Megan felt a hand close over her elbow, to hold her back. Richie’s mouth was so close to her hair she could feel his breath waving it apart.
“What’s wrong hun?”
She swung around to smile at him, shocked to see tears in her eyes he stroked her cheek.
“Why the tears, honey?”
“I’m so thankful for what you are doing. Jaden is in seventh heaven right now, but I’m just scared Jaden is seeing more into this.”
“He needs a dad, Meg. I can see it, you can see it. So let me be his friend until you feel ready to confront Jon with this, k?”
She walked into his arms.
“Why are you so nice to me, Rich?”
“I have to be nice, you are still the little brat that brought us drinks and food. If I play my cards right, you might just do it again. I’m a lazy bastard, don’t you remember?”
Richie always knew how to lighten any mood.
“Yeah, I remember that so well.”
“Come on, you two! I’m starving!!”
“Oh the champ of the hour had spoken mom.”
~~~
Jon was sitting in the studio, he didn’t feel like working, something new for him. Megan had thrown his life around like a tumble weed in the wind.
She had took him by surprise, awoken his passion and love for her and crushed it with her cold, untrusting manner.
Why didn’t she ever let him know where she was. He went to her parents’ house a few times, begging them to let him know where she was.
He even pleaded with Mary every time he found her alone and sometimes he was almost sure she would give in. He came so close but then something would let her clam up and she would shy away from any conversation with him.
The last time he ever went back to her house Patrick had told him in no uncertain terms, that Megan didn’t want to see him. She had a young man of her age now and that she had moved on.
He walked from that house, his heart crushed and his mind rushing. He fell in love with a young girl and she dumped him. She forgot about him the moment she left this place!
He erased her from his mind and took up with Dorothea. He told himself he was over the young girl with her dark eyes, but somehow when he held Dorothea he visioned Megan in his arms, holding him, touching him.
As the years went by Megan became a far off memory and then one day she had disappeared from his memory, until the day he saw her at the hospital and it hit him like a ton of bricks.
She was always there, in his dreams. She was still the young girl he remembered, but the voluptuous woman in front of him almost brought his heart to a violent stand still. Her body had matured as well as her eyes.
Gone was the innocence of youth.
God he hopes she accepts his proposal! That is the only thing that will keep him sane…
