Thank God it was Friday! She had to get to New York this weekend! She needed to, desperately!
A smile adorned her face as Richie walked in.
“Who put that beautiful smile on your face?”
“I’m just happy. Do you know where’s Jon? Want to know if he needs me, I have to go to New York this weekend.”
“The whole weekend? I could give you a ride. I have to be there too. I hate driving alone.”
Richie expected her to accept right away but the undecided look in her eyes made him frown.
“Or not..if you prefer.”
“No that will be nice. Thanks Rich.”
“I think I saw Jon in his room. He looks like he’s in a bad mood this morning, so be careful.” He winked at her.
Yeah, and I probably put him in that mood.
She found him leaning on the railing of his patio, smoke swirling from his mouth.
She knocked and he turned around.
“Thought you might like some coffee. You didn’t come down for breakfast, so I saved some food for you.”
He searched her face for a moment, excepting the coffee from her, he lifted it in a thank you gesture.
“Uum, Jon. I know I only started working this week, but is it possible that I might get this weekend off?”
“Sure.”
“Thanks.”
He sure wasn’t friendly and she sure as hell wasn’t going to stay longer than necessary.
“Are you going with Richie?”
Her steps faltered and she swung around.
“I’m driving with him, but no.”
He ignored her and she turned away.
“See you Monday then?”
“Uhuh”
“Look Jon. This is not working out. Would you rather I leave?”
“Running away again, Megan?”
She gasped at his venomous words.
“I didn’t run away, Jon. I was sent away and you know it.”
“Then why didn’t you come back?”
“You will never understand.”
Jon turned around, stepped forward but didn’t touch her.
“Tell me! I would like to know! You left me here, remember?”
Her shoulders slumped.
“I had no choice.”
“Everybody has a choice in life, sweetheart.”
“If you say so, Jon.”
She walked out and he didn’t stop her.
