“This way Mr. Bongiovi.”
Nice ass….Jon snickered at himself as he stared at the uniformed ass showing him the way to the room. You haven’t had a woman in a while…better make a plan soon.
He scraped his hands through his windblown hair, trying to force the thought from his mind.
Mary was sitting faithfully next to her husband’s bed holding his hand. A teary smile lit her face as she saw Jon walk in.
He pulled the woman upwards, folding her in his arms, whispering to her.
“How is he, hun? Are you ok?”
“He is better, he woke up this morning. But he is very weak. I’m doing ok…I just need to stretch my legs and now that you are here…”
He nodded towards the door.
“You go and get something to eat and drink. I’ll sit with him.”
It felt like time stood still. The beeping of the machine confirmed the steady beat of his heart. The old man was pale against the sheet and his breathing was labored.
C’mon old man, you can do it.
Mary came walking in a while later, a coffee in each hand.
“That’s gonna be heaven. Thanx!"
“I know you and your love for caffeine.”
“That you do.” Blue eyes wink mischievously at her.
The still figure whispered softly.
Mary stood up and took his hand.
“You have to stay calm, sweetheart. She’ll be here soon. I promise.”
Jon felt his heart flip in his chest. His heart was breaking for the man on the bed.
“He is calling for Megan, isn’t he?”
Jon could see she felt uncomfortable when he mentioned her name.
“Yes. I called her last night. I’m sure she will come. I just think she’s a bit busy.”
“Busy?! For God sake her father just had a heartattack…Sorry. You don’t need this from me.”
“She will come. I know it.”
Her voice sounded sure but the uncertainty in her eyes told him otherwise.
“Excuse me for a moment.”
He stood up and stalked out the room, the cellphone ready in his hand.
“Get Me Megan Lyons’ number please.”
He shut the phone and walked out to get some privacy and a cigarette.
