It was a teary goodbye when they left on Sunday. Richie gave Jaden his number if he needed him and Megan just smiled. Another one fell for Jaden’s charm.
It was the first time Jaden didn’t want to stay with aunt Jean and Megan almost grabbed his clothes and stuffed it in a bag, but a pair of luminious blue eyes swam into view.
“Sweetie, I promise. Soon I’ll take you to go see grandma, they are coming back in a week or so and when grandpa is up to it, I’ll come and get you for a weekend.
Hopefully I told your father about your existence by then….she shook the scary thought from her mind.
Richie hugged the boy to his legs, planting a kiss on the top of his head.
“I had a super weekend buddy! I hope we can do it soon,k? You be a good boy now and if your mama don’t come and get you soon. I’ll come and get you myself, deal?”
The boy’s smothered ,deal, broke Richie’s heart.
He looked towards Megan as to tell her if she heard what he said and received a pleading look from her.
Megan watched as tears stream down her face until they turned the corner.
“Is it always this hard to leave him here?”
“Always…”she sniffed, grabbed a tissue to try and rescue her makeup.
“You said he was old enough so you could take him, why don’t you?”
His voice was soft and soothing.
“Oh Rich, I want to so badly. But I’m without a job. I had to put my apartment up for rent. I’m actually homeless. How am I going to look after him?”
“You two will have a home with Jon. Just tell him Meg. Get this mountain off your shoulders and tell Jon he has a boy. You will see everything will fall in place. I need to know something though, do you still love him?”
His question knocked her breath from her lungs.
“I…I don’t know.”
Richie smirked at her.
“Well the sexual attraction is still there. You can cut it with a knife everytime you two are together.”
She slapped him to hide her embarrassment.
“That’s not enough. I had a few relationships in the past, but it never seemed to work out.”
“I know why. Because you still love Jon and honey I’m not an expert but if you give you heart to someone, its forever, right?”
Megan didn’t say anything but Richie’s words hit her like a ton of brick. He was right.
