Chapter 31

She didn’t follow him immediately, she took her time, she needed it. She shoved the pudding into the stove and ran to the bathroom to make herself presentable.
They were all gathered in the sittingroom with some or other alcoholic refreshment when she walked it.
The conversation stopped and four pairs of eyes were on her.
“Wine?” Jon asked but handed her a glass anyway.
“Well fuck me side ways! You said she was a looker but hell you didn’t do the poor girl justice!” Tico had forgotten about his cigarette.
David uttered a wolf wistle and nodded in agreement.
“I’m not a girl anymore Tic!”
“Hell honey that I can see! You filled out quite nicely!”
“You give the term hour glass figure a new meaning!” David made an hour glass figure in the air.
Her hands rested on her hips, a mock frown on her face.
“Now if you two are finished scrutinizing me, can I get a hug or something?”
“I thought you’d never ask!”
David reached her first, smirking at Tico’s frown. Swooping her up, he twirled her like a little girl.
“Sorry old man, I’m first.”
He put her down and pulled her into a tight embrace.
“We missed you, you know! You were like a little sister to us and then you just vanished! Hope you are staying around longer this time and no disappearing again, k?”
She smiled at him. “K.”
“Ok you can let go of her now.”  Tico’s smokey voice was always something she loved about him.
“Just as handsome as I remembered!” she hugged him too and received a good solid kiss on her lips.
“You are more beautiful than I remembered sweetheart! Someone snapped you up already?”
“Naaw, I was waiting for you!”
“Don’t joke around baby. We can leave these assholes here and get married in Vegas!”
“I thought bigamy was illegal?” Gotcha! Her eyes seemed to say.
Tico rolled his eyes.
“Shit yeah. I forgot! Oh well, welcome honey!”
“Glad to be here, Tic. Now if you will excuse me. I think the food is ready, so you guys can wash up and I’ll bring the supper through.”
She could feel Jon’s eyes burning in her back, but refused to acknowledge it.
They were all ready and waiting when she and the servants brought the food.
They were sniffing and eyeing the huge roast appreciatively.
There were a huge amount of roast potatoes, a fresh green salad, green beans ,pumpkin and cauliflower smothered in a rich cheese sauce.
“Geesh Meg! I don’t think I’ll be able to walk after this!” Richie was lost in food paradise.
“You better leave a little spot. I made a warm pudding.”
Richie blew her a kiss.
“Seeing as the old man is married. Can’t I marry you instead?”
Her eyes sparkled mischievously.
“You wanna marry me for my cooking skills? Gmmf, here I thought it was my flawless beauty!”
She was yanked to his side, he was sitting across from Jon and she caught a glimpse of his face.
“You are goodlookin’ and a good cook. Who knows what else hidden talents you have!”
Her virginal blush had the men in stitches, Jon smiled but it didn’t quite reach his eyes.
David knocked his cutlery on the table.
“Pleeeassseee Meg. Sit down so we can eat!  Richie stop flirting with the girl. DAMN! I’m dying heeeerrreeeee!” he was whining like a little boy.
She shook her head.
“You guys go ahead. Remember I am actually the housekeeper here, so eat away guys!”
Everyone protested all at once.
Jon’s clear voice silenced them.
“Please have supper with us, Megan.” It was more a demand than a request.
Their eyes locked, a sizzle went through her  spine. His eyes said so much at that moment.
“Thank you, Jon.”
She returned to the kitchen to get some cutlery and a plate.
Jon was standing behind a chair when she walked in. She sat down and he pushed the chair in. That’s when she realized she was going to sit next to him tonight.
What a long dinner this was going to be.
