The pregnancy went smoothly, she had to grin and bear the strange looks she received whenever she went to the shops with her aunt.
She marveled at every milestone she experienced. She could still remember the first fluttering she felt. She had called her mom and couldn’t contain her joy. Her mom was always by her side at every doctor’s appointment and the night she went into labour she was by her side as well, rubbing her back, encouraging her only child in the ways of labour. It was her priviledge to see her grandchild first.
Seeing as Megan was so young, she needed an episiotomy and while the doctor was tending to it, she could see her newborn grandchild, looking at the world for the first time.
It was love at first sight and she never looked back. Patrick had a difficult time adjusting to being a grandfather, he never came to visit his only grandchild, he couldn’t bear staring his daughter in the eye. He had seen pictures of the little boy, never ever said it out loud, but he was glad Megan decided against adoption.
Aunt Jean took care of Jaden when he was old enough to be weaned and Megan threw herself into her studies.

Richie’s phone jerked her back to reality.
“Jon?”
“Oh I’m at a restaurant with a beautiful brunette, why?” He winked mischievously at her.
“Well she’s right here, you wanna speak to her? You sure? K. Bye.”
Richie frowned as he stared at the phone.
“What’s the matter?”
“He wanted to speak to you and when I said you were here, he didn’t want to talk to you anymore.”
“Ooh crap! Jon asked me if we were coming to New York to spend the weekend together and I said no. He thinks I’m lying.”
“Arggh, I’ll set him straight tomorrow. Now lets order something to eat and lets forget the past and work towards the future. “
He lifted his glass towards her.
“To you, Jaden and Jon.”
“I don’t thinks all the toasts in the world will help for what’s about to happen.”
It was almost midnight when Richie brought her back. Somehow she felt lighter, she needed to talk to someone, and the talk with Richie did her a world of good.
She had just snuggled up against Jaden’s warmth when her phone rang.
“Megan speaking.”
“I thought you weren’t going together…” he had been drinking, not enough to slur his words, but to slow it down quite a bit. From the background noise it sounded like he was in a bar or some busy place.
“Actually we didn’t. He asked me to dinner, it wasn’t planned.”
“I need you.”
Those three words set her pulses racing.
Silence.
“Meg?”
“Jon, you had been drinking. Why don’t you call me back tomorrow.”
“No dammit. I want to speak to you now.”
“Jon, its late and I’m tired.”
“When are you coming back?”
“Sunday.”
“I have something to discuss with you. Will you come and see me when you’re back?”
“Ok.”
“G’night baby.”
“Night Jon.”
